Nitric Acid (60%) Bund, Oxford

Nitric Acid is a highly corrosive mineral acid. In its pure form, it is colourless, and most commercial Nitric Acid has a concentration of 68%. In this particular environment, the bund was required to hold tanks that would contain Nitric Acid at 60% concentration.

Prokem were commissioned to carry out bund protection and we applied chemical-resistant Decavane RC Multi Coating which we use regularly in the Nitric Acid industry. You can see the finished bund protection in the images below after the Decavance RC Multi-Coating was applied as the bund lining.

Decavane has other useful properties including excellent thermal resistance, (up to 145°C) and it is fast curing – usually, you can walk on it within 12 hours. It is also hygienic, easy to clean, provides good abrasion resistance and is UV resistant ( a UV light-resistant grade is available )  which prevents a yellowing effect.
